About

The Soka Buddhist Club centers on the practice of Nichiren Buddhism according to the Soka Gakkai International. We welcome anyone interested in learning about our Nichiren Buddhist practice. The primary aspect of our practice is the chanting of the words "Nam Myoho Renge Kyo," also known as daimoku.

The chanting of "Nam Myoho Renge Kyo" was established by the Buddhist monk Nichiren Daishonin as a way for all people to awken to their Buddha nature and tap into the deepest levels of existence, on which our own lives are one with that of the universe. Nichiren derived those words from the Lotus Sutra. The verse "Myoho Renge Kyo" is the name of the Lotus Sutra, in the Japanese pronunciation of the original classical Chinese characters.

The Soka Gakkai (SGI) is an internation lay Buddhist Organization whose tenets promote peace, culture and education. Members of the SGI seek to Engage their practice in their daily lives, to equip themselves to overcome life's obstacles and lead happy, fulfilling lives. Esstention to their practice is nurturing the ability to create value in any circumstance and to contribute to the well-being of others. A healthy practice catalyzes the process of ongoing growth and empowerment known as "human revolution."
